Security forces have apprehended a suspected kidnapping kingpin, Ngbede Ekoja Echono, widely known as Ocheanpla, in Benue State’s Apa Local Government Area.
The suspect, believed to have masterminded several abductions and armed attacks around the Odugbo, Opaha, and Obinda regions, has allegedly threatened to expose other members of his criminal syndicate.
In a video clip reportedly recorded shortly after his arrest, Echono is heard warning security agents against mistreating him, insisting he was not the only one involved in the crimes.

“If you take me beyond here, I will expose many. I am not the only kidnapper in Obinda, Opaha, Odugbo axis,” he stated.
Residents familiar with the suspect’s past activities claim he has repeatedly led armed gangs into villages and once sold off weapons belonging to the Obinda community without any repercussions.
“He even took Obinda’s weapon and sold it, yet no one said anything,” a local source alleged.
Security officials say investigations are ongoing and that Echono’s statements may lead to further arrests as efforts continue to dismantle the wider network.
