Benue Police Officer Rapes 16-year-old Girl in Detention

The Benue State Police Command has dismissed Constable Belasa Iyangedue for raping a 16-year-old girl who was detained for defamation.

While in custody at the Divisional Police headquarters in Konshisha Local Government Area, Iyangedue took advantage of the victim’s vulnerability and violated her against her will.

The victim bravely reported the incident to the Divisional Police Officer, DPO leading to the Constable’s arrest and subsequent prosecution at the Magistrates’ Court in Makurdi.

Mr Bartholomew Onyeka, the state Commissioner of Police spoke with newsmen on Tuesday in Makurdi and said:

The dismissed constable committed the crime at Tse Agbaragba Divisional Police Station, Konshisha LGA.

“The police is a disciplined organ and being the statutory organ responsible for crime and fighting crime and management, such people are not allowed to stay in the system.

“He was not only dismissed, he is facing prosecution.”
