  • Final year students of Gyutiev Model College in Benue State allegedly set fire to their principal’s residence after discovering they were not registered for the 2025 NECO exams despite reportedly paying ₦85,000 each.
  • The incident, which occurred in the early hours of Friday, involved 178 students said to have been affected by the alleged registration failure.
  • Police spokesperson Udeme Edet stated that the command had not received an official report but assured that further details would be provided once confirmed.

 

Final year students of Gyutiev Model College in Saghev Ward, Guma Local Government Area of Benue State, have reportedly burned down the home of their principal, Mr Isaac Yina.

The incident was said to have occurred in the early hours of Friday.

According to reports, the students were enraged after discovering they were not registered for the 2025 National Examinations Council (NECO) exams, despite each of them allegedly paying N85,000 to the principal. A total of 178 students were said to have made the payment.

When contacted by DAILY POST, the Public Relations Officer of the Benue State Police Command, Udeme Edet, said she had not yet received an official report on the incident but added, “When I find out, I will let you know.”

This development comes amid growing concerns in Guma LGA, which has been in the spotlight following a recent attack on Yelwata community that claimed the lives of over 200 residents.

Mr. Ajayi Fulani has called on the government and security agencies to ensure justice is served after his 12-year-old daughter was allegedly kidnapped and raped by the Baale of Laagba community, Chief Adeniyi Ifedayo, in Ondo East Local Government Area of Ondo State.

Speaking on Friday, Fulani claimed the traditional ruler took advantage of his absence—due to his job as a security guard—to commit the act.
