Nigerian rapper Emeka Akumefule, known as Blaqbonez, credited Wizkid’s song ‘Essence’ for elevating Afrobeats onto the global stage.

Blaqbonez highlighted the significant surge in Afrobeats’ popularity following the release of ‘Essence’ featuring Tems in 2020. During a recent interview with American outlet KTLA, Blaqbonez shared his perspective.

“Afrobeats took a massive leap when Wizkid dropped Essence and it went crazy. It just told the world Afrobeats is something you really have to watch.
