Suspected Boko Haram fighters struck Shikarkir village in Chibok Local Government Area of Borno State on Wednesday night, whisking away seven villagers in yet another disturbing assault on the troubled region. The attack happened at about 8pm, and residents say the insurgents moved quietly through the community.

According to locals, the gunmen initially took around 15 people, but eight of them managed to slip away while being moved into the bush. Among those still being held are the two daughters of a pastor in the village, a woman with her child, and the wife of a resident identified as Mr. Smith Shikarkir.

One resident, John Yusuf, confirmed the incident and noted that the attackers did not fire a single shot or destroy any property. He said their calm approach made the invasion even more terrifying because villagers only realised what was happening when several neighbours had already been taken.

Another community leader, who did not want his name published, described the attack as heartbreaking. He said Chibok has been facing assaults almost every week, and families are growing more desperate as the authorities struggle to stop the persistent kidnappings.

He expressed frustration over what he called a “deafening silence” despite repeated calls for help. According to him, the community has been left to live in fear, unsure of who might be taken next. He urged leaders and security agencies to prioritise Chibok, saying the people need peace, protection, and a real effort to end these continuous Boko Haram attacks in Chibok.
