Boko Haram insurgents struck Magumeri community in Borno State late Saturday night, setting fire to numerous houses and vehicles, including patrol cars recently distributed to the Civilian Joint Task Force (JTF) by Governor Babagana Zulum.
The attacks coincided with Governor Zulum’s call for prayers and fasting on Sunday and Monday to seek divine intervention amid rising insecurity in the state.

A military source confirmed: “No lives were lost in the foiled attacks by the terrorists. Unfortunately, the insurgents emerged from Sasawa Forest in Yobe State, razing the patrol vehicles of the Civilian JTF and other volunteers.”
The source added that the Civilian JTF youths have been complementing the military in counter-terrorism operations in the Sambisa Forest and Lake Chad regions. “Our soldiers stood their ground, forcing insurgents to retreat with gunshot wounds back into the forest,” the source said.
The attacks highlight the persistent threat Boko Haram poses in the North-East and underscore the ongoing collaboration between military forces and volunteer groups to protect vulnerable communities. Governor Zulum’s prayers and fasting declaration reflect a dual approach of spiritual and security interventions to restore peace in Borno State.
