The victims were abducted on December 17, 2025, while traveling from Miringa town to Maiduguri. The video was shared by security analyst Zagazola Makam and shows the abductees speaking calmly but visibly distressed.

Identifying himself in the video, Miringa said “My name is Hassan Biu Miringa, former Vice Chairman of Biu Local Government from 2020 to 2022. We were abducted by soldiers of Khilafa in December 2025, about 14 days ago, and we are still in their captivity. Alhamdulillah, we are still alive, but we need help to save our lives.”

He revealed that negotiations with the abductors had been ongoing and that some level of understanding had already been reached.

“We have spoken with them in four different phases and we have reached an agreement,” he said.

Miringa made a direct appeal to top political figures in the state, including Borno Deputy Governor, Alhaji Usman Umar Kadafur, Hon. Betera Aliyu, who represents Biu, Kwaya and Shani at the National Assembly, and other community leaders to come to their aid.

“We are calling on our leaders to temper justice with mercy. We are their children, and we have worked together for years,” he added.

Disclosing the ransom demand, Miringa said the terrorists are asking for $150,000 per person, totaling $300,000, for their release.

“We are hoping that you will hear our cries and help us return safely to our families. May Allah help us and grant us lasting peace,” he pleaded.
