A funeral mass is set to hold on Wednesday for the victims at Bomadi, where six out of the women hail from.

However, almost a week after the sad incident which attracted widespread condolence and sympathy, the Delta State Government is still silent.

No condolence statement. No visit to the bereaved families. Nothing.

GbaramatuVoice Newspaper was the first to raise an alarm over the disturbing silence of the Okowa-led government over the fatal accident.

The paper called to mind that the Okowa administration was fond of not paying concern to issues of this sort when it happens to Ijaws and in Ijaw areas in the state.

A statement released by the media organization reads in part;

“We are particularly pained by the fact that this is not the first time the state government is demonstrating such undeserving silence on issues.

“From this awareness/concern, we are tempted to ask; are there lives that are more important than the others in the state? If not, why is it that the state government is in the habit of responding with the speed of lightening whenever misfortune befalls some certain personalities and from certain parts of the state?

“Why feeling less concerned when it happens to others? What offence did these innocent victims commit against the state government that qualified them to be ignored even in death? If critically examined, chances are that they may have voted for the present administration?

“Making the matter worse is that their death may not be unconnected with the state government’s failure as most of the roads in the state are laced/riddled with pot holes. We are yet to fathom why the state government is delaying to commiserate with the deceased families even when the acting state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Bright Edafe, has confirmed the incident?

“We hold the opinion that these accident victims and their families deserve a better deal/attention from the state government.

Wild outrage followed the publication with many condemning the state government for making it a habit to treat issues that affect the Ijaws with levity.
