A community member told reporters that the blast happened suddenly and threw the already troubled community into fear and confusion.
“There was an explosion around Woro this morning. A car drove over an IED. We believe it was planted by Boko Haram members,” a local source said.
At the time of reporting, the exact number of people killed or injured had not yet been confirmed.
Another resident, Aliyu Yahuza, also confirmed the explosion, raising concerns that the community may still be facing security threats from armed groups.
Attempts to get an official response from the Kwara State Police Command spokesperson, DSP Toun Ejire-Adeyemi, were unsuccessful at the time of the report.
The explosion comes amid growing insecurity in the Woro area. Reports say that in recent weeks:
• Suspected terrorists had earlier attacked the community.
• Dozens of residents were reportedly killed.
• About 176 people were abducted, including women, children, and a nursing mother.
These attacks have left many residents living in fear and questioning the safety of their communities.
The incident also follows another suicide attack in Maiduguri about a week earlier, which resulted in several deaths and injuries.
Security experts say that militant groups sometimes move to new areas when military pressure increases in their main strongholds, which may explain why attacks are being reported in places that previously experienced fewer incidents.
