Boniface and Tella Aim for History as Bayer Leverkusen Chase European Unbeaten Record

Boniface and Tella

Nigerian players Victor Boniface and Nathan Tella are on the cusp of making history with the newly crowned Bundesliga champions, Bayer Leverkusen.

Leverkusen is set to play AS Roma in the second leg of the Europa League semi-final at the BayArena on Thursday (today).

Under Xabi Alonso, Leverkusen have gone unbeaten in 48 consecutive games across all competitions, a streak they extended with last Sunday’s 5-1 win over Eintracht Frankfurt.

That win allowed Die Werkself to match Benfica’s longstanding European record, which was set between December 1963 and February 1965.

If they defeat AS Roma, Leverkusen will break the record, setting a new benchmark for the longest unbeaten streak by a European club.

Leverkusen is aiming to win the Europa League for the second time in their history, the first time being in the 1987/88 season.
