In a statement issued in Abuja, NIS spokesperson ACI Akinsola Akinlabi said the operation was executed by the Lagos State Border Patrol Command following actionable intelligence.

“Through credible intelligence, Obi Levi Obieze was apprehended by vigilant men of the Nigeria Immigration Service while attempting to flee the country,” said Akinlabi.

According to reports, Obieze is the prime suspect in the abduction of a 13-year-old girl on May 27, 2025, while she walked to the farm with her father. The child was later rescued by police from a shrine allegedly connected to the suspect.

“The victim was reportedly abducted by a group of three men… and was rescued from a shrine purportedly linked to the suspect,” the NIS statement read, citing information from a national newspaper dated May 28, 2025.

The suspect’s identity was confirmed through a National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) enrolment slip found on him at the time of arrest.
