Police Panel Grills Abba Kyari Over FBI Indictment

Suspended Deputy Commissioner of Police, Abba Kyari has begun the defence of his indictment by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), before the Special Investigation Panel.
Abba Kyari, a former Head of the Intelligence Response Team, appeared before the panel headed by the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in-charge of the Force Criminal Investigations Department, Joseph Egbunike.
The under fire super cop presented his defence before the SIP on Tuesday, at the Police Force headquarters, Abuja, the Federal.Capital Territory.

Daily Report Nigeria gathered that the Special Investigation Panel ended the session around 8pm.
“The panel started sitting since Monday. Kyari appeared before the panel members today (Tuesday) during which he presented his defence to the indictment by the Federal Bureau of Investigation to the SIP members. The panel would take it from there,” our source said.
The much decorated Abba Kyari is being investigated over an alleged involvement in a $1.1m internet wire fraud spearheaded by renowned Instagram celebrity, Abbas Ramon, popularly known as Hushpuppi, and five others.
In indicting the super cop, the FBI claimed Abba Kyari detained a certain Kelly Chibuzor upon Hushpuppi’s request.
Chibuzor was kept in police custody for one month to further enable HushPuppi and other conspirators fleece a Qatari school founder of $1.1m.
The FBI further alleged Abba Kyari was paid a combined sum of $20,600 through two bank accounts provided by the suspended DCP on January 20, 2020.
Kyari’s indictment led to his suspension and subsequent replacement with DCP Tunji Disu as the new Head of the Intelligence Response Team, who has since resumed at the Force headquarters in Abuja.
