Senate President, Senator Ahmad Lawan is reportedly sitting over defection letters of a minimum of 12 senators on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC.

Accord to unconfirmed reports, the Senate President is depriving the reading of the defection letters in a bid order to block any impeachment threat against his position.

The numerical strength of the ruling party recently reduced from 64 to 62 in the upper chamber, while it has risen from 39 to 41 for the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

Also, the New Nigeria Peoples Party has two senators, while the Young Progressives Party and All Progressives Grand Alliance each have one senator.

If the defection letters of the 12 lawmakers are read, the numerical strength of the APC will be reduced to 50 senators, which will threaten Lawan’s position as the Senate president.

Among the lawmakers who submitted a defection notice is Senator Adamu Bulkachuwa, who submitted his defection letter to Lawan.

DAILY REPORT recalls that the minority caucus of the senate had staged a walkout to demand the impeachment of President Muhammadu Buhari over a consistent rise in security.

Some opposition senators were also said to be considering the removal of the Senate president if he he were to stand against the impeachment process of President Buhari.
