The Academic Staff Union of Universities has finally suspended its strike.

ASUU has been on strike for 8 months

ASUU President, Prof. Osodeke will make an official pronouncement to call off the strike.

The Academic staff Union of Universities has called of its 8-months old strike.

While the union is yet to make an official pronouncement, Punch reports that the decision to call off he strike was reached at the end of the National Executive Council that held at the ASUU secretariat in Abuja.

“Yes, it has been called off,” an ASUU source told the publication.

ASUU President, Emmanuel Osedeke ‘will release an official circular in the morning,’ the source added.

According to another source, ASUU will only suspend the strike on conditional owing to the government’s unfaithful habits with regards to upholding its part of previous agreements.

Daily Report recalls that the academic union embarked on a strike on Monday, February 14, 2022.

The suspension of the strike is sequel to series of meetings occasioned by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila.

Both the Speaker, ASUU and its Counsel, Femi Falana had expressed optimism that the strike would be called of in a matter of days.

The mediation by Gbajabiamila is sequel to an order for ASUU to call off the strike by the Appeal Court.
