Quandong Geng, a Chinese national has been sentenced to death for the murder of his girlfriend, Ummulkusum Sani Buhari (Ummita) in Kano State.
Justice Sanusi Ado Ma’aji, presiding over the Kano State High Court at Miller Road, Bompai convicted Geng and sentenced him to death on Tuesday.
In September 2022, Geng forcibly entered Ummita’s residence and fatally stabbed her during a heated argument.
Although he fled the scene, diligent police work led to his subsequent arrest and arraignment.

During the court’s cross-examination, Geng revealed that Ummita’s decision to marry another person shattered his heart.
He had envisioned a future with her, and their wedding preparations reflected this commitment.
Geng stated that he purchased wedding dresses valued at N1.5 million, assorted sweets, and other attire for their special day.
Furthermore, he revealed that he provided ‘Asoebi’ for Ummita’s friends and N700,000 in crisp new notes for the customary wedding-day spraying.
