The Cross River State Governor, Senator Bassey Otu has issued a directive to ban all commercial motorcycles within the Calabar Metropolis.
The ban was announced on Wednesday by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Emmanuel Ogbeche, following consultations with security chiefs in the state.
The statement however added that individuals who use their cycles to earn a living are only permitted to operate in remote areas outside the city center.

Otu warned that anyone caught violating the directive will face prosecution and have their motorcycle impounded.
The statement read:
“The Governor, Senator Bassey Otu, after due consultation with key security chiefs in the state has directed a total ban on the activities of all commercial motorcycles within the Calabar Metropolis.
“Those willing to use their motorcycles to earn a decent living are restricted only to remote areas away from the city centre.”
Additionally, the government issued a stern warning against the vandalization of public assets such as streetlights, lamp posts, and traffic lights.
The state government advised criminals to desist from such acts as the full weight of the law will be brought upon them.
