Otu warned that anyone caught violating the directive will face prosecution and have their motorcycle impounded.

The statement read:
“The Governor, Senator Bassey Otu, after due consultation with key security chiefs in the state has directed a total ban on the activities of all commercial motorcycles within the Calabar Metropolis.

“Those willing to use their motorcycles to earn a decent living are restricted only to remote areas away from the city centre.”

Additionally, the government issued a stern warning against the vandalization of public assets such as streetlights, lamp posts, and traffic lights.

The state government advised criminals to desist from such acts as the full weight of the law will be brought upon them.
