The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has said it did not release the immediate-past governor of Anambra state, Willie Obiano, and his wife, Ebelechukwu from detention.

The Public Relations Officer of the EFCC, Wilson Uwujaren, said that Obiano was not released as reported earlier, but was only transferred to Abuja for further investigation.

The couple were arrested on Thursday night at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos, while trying to catch a flight to their base in the United States.

The arrest came barely 5 hours after Obiano handed over power to Governor Charlie Soludo.

The anti-graft agency has also confiscated the passports of Obiano and wife.

The couple are billed to proceed to the EFCC Abuja office for further interrogation and investigation.
