At least eight people have died after a vehicle they were travelling in reportedly hit an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) in Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State.
According to reports, the incident occurred early Monday morning along Luma Road, which connects the Luma, Babana, and Agwara communities.

Security sources said suspected terrorists had earlier planted explosive devices in the area and also destroyed a bridge on the same road using an IED during the night.
Later, a vehicle travelling between Nuku and Woro unknowingly drove over one of the explosives.
The device exploded, killing:
• Seven passengers in the vehicle
• The driver
This brought the total number of fatalities to eight.
The bridge that was bombed is important for residents because it connects communities and provides access to the Babana border market, a major market that holds every Monday and attracts traders from nearby areas.
The destruction of the bridge has disrupted movement and trade in the region.
The Niger State Police Command confirmed the incident.
Police spokesperson Wasiu Abiodun said the bridge was destroyed by suspected terrorists around 2:00 a.m., and security forces are currently carrying out clearance and monitoring operations in the area.
He explained that security agencies are working to ensure the area is safe and to prevent further attacks.
Authorities believe the attack may be linked to armed groups operating in forest areas around Borgu, where security operations have been ongoing.
The use of roadside explosives (IEDs) is becoming a growing concern in some parts of Nigeria because they can target vehicles moving through rural roads.
