BREAKING: Emefiele Confirmed APC Member, Heads to Court

The Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, has been confirmed to be a member of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.

Emefiele’s membership of the ruling party was confirmed by the APC Chairman, Ward 6 in Ika South Local Government Area of Delta State, Nduka Erikpume.

According to the Ward 6 APC Chairman, the CBN governor had registered as a member of the APC since 2021.

Quizzed on whether Emefiele had registered in the APC, Erikpume confirmed without hesitation.

“Yes, he has registered since February 2021. He is our member,” Erikpume told Punch.

However, reports are rife that Emefiele has hired the services of renowned constitutional and human rights lawyer, Mike Ozekhome (SAN) to seek the interpretation of the Federal High Court over his involvement in politics whilst still holding the position as CBN governor.

Emefiele has tasked Ozekhome to seek interpretation of the constitution and public service rules on public servants seeking elective positions while in office.

A top CBN source also told PUNCH that, “Emefiele has just briefed Chief Mike Ozekhome (SAN) as his lawyer. He has just filed a case in court and is coming up tomorrow (today, Monday).”

Although details of the suit were still sketchy as of press time, another source in the APC said Ozekhome was taking up the matter “for certain constitutional interpretations.”

This is coming after the CBN Governor received widespread backlash for nursing a presidential ambition after rice farmers purchased the N100 million APC nomination form for him.

Emefiele however, denied declaring for the apex seat, saying he was still pondering over the matter and would make a decision in the coming days.
