Enugu Assembly Passes Anti-Open Grazing Bill

The Enugu State House of Assembly has passed a bill for a law to prohibit open grazing, regulate cattle ranching into law.

The passed bill is also for connected purposes into law.

A Public Hearing for the bill was conducted on Tuesday by the House.

Stakeholders at the Hearing had commended the bill and called for it’s immediate passage into law.

Also, the Northern Community in Enugu State had pleased for 30 to articulate their position on the bill and submit feedback to the House.

The community led by South East zonal Chairman of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria, Alhaji Gidado Siddiki, pledged their support for any law that will bring peace and security in the state.

“I plead for a period of one month to enable us come out with a position that will truly carry our disposition with due consideration to the good of Enugu State and Nigeria.”

While passing the bill, Rt Hon. Edward Ubosi, Speaker of the House, stated that the Bill was not targeted on any group or individuals but for the peace and security of residents of Enugu state.

This bill is for the unity, security and peaceful coexistence among residents of Enugu State. It is not targeted on any group or individual,” he said.

He further lauded members of the committee for working tirelessly to ensure that the Bill was passed today.
