Chief Michael Olasubomi ‘Subomi’ Balogun, a prominent banker and founder of First City Monument Bank (FCMB) is dead.

He passed away at the age of 89 in a London hospital on Friday morning.

Balogun was a well-respected figure in his community, holding titles such as Otunba Tunwase of Ijebuland, Olori Omoba of Ijebuland, and Asiwaju Onigbabo Ile Ijebu (Leader of Christians of Ijebu origin).

Balogun’s contributions to the banking industry cannot be overstated. As a pioneer in the field, he founded FCMB in 1982 and led it to become one of the most successful banks in Nigeria.
