BREAKING: Fear as IPOB Reportedly Reinforces Sit-at-Home in Enugu

Reports of an alleged sit-at-home reinforcement by the Indigenous People of Biafra has led to palpable tension in Enugu State.

This follows a stampede at the Old Park, Okpara Avenue axis early morning on Monday in Enugu, the state state.

While the cause of the stampede was yet to be ascertained, residents were reportedly running helter-skelter over the reinforcement being carried out by some IPOB members.

Daily Report Nigeria can recall that the sit-at-home order was earlier suspended in commercial areas of the state.

Many motorists and traders around the Ogbete Main Market were left with serious injuries following the stampede, while several vehicles were damaged as a result of the log jam caused by the incident.

A senior police officer who spoke with newsmen said security around the Enugu maximum correctional centre located at Old Park axis, has been beefed in a bid to repel any attack on the facility.

He said, “Our men have been deployed to strategic locations around the Maximum Correctional Centre at the Old Park and other government institutions within the state capital.

“This morning we received a report of stampede around Old Park, Okpara Avenue, Ogbete Main Market and Coal Camp areas that members of the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra were enforcing Monday sit-at-home order which had earlier been suspended by the same group around September 2021.

“But it turned out that it was a rumour because we have not seen anything yet to suggest such. However, as I said, our operatives have been deployed to strategic locations to forestall any breakdown of law and order in the state.”
