Finidi George has stepped down from his role as the head coach of the Super Eagles. It’s understood that he made this decision on Saturday, shortly after the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) announced plans to hire a foreign technical adviser.
Former Eagles media officer Toyin Ibitoye confirmed Finidi’s departure on his X account, writing: “Breaking News: Finidi George @FinidiGeorge_FG has resigned from his @NGSuperEagles manager position.”
Finidi was appointed on April 29, 2024, taking over from Jose Peseiro, whose contract had expired in February. In his short time as coach, he oversaw a 1-1 draw with South Africa and a 2-1 loss to Benin Republic in the 2026 World Cup qualifying series, as the former Enyimba boss.
