BREAKING: Governor Umahi Appeals Sack Order by Court

The Governor of Ebonyi State, Dave Umahi, has appealed the Federal High Court judgement which sacked him and his deputy, Dr Eric Kelechi Igwe, from office.

Umahi and his deputy were sacked by the Justice Inyang Ekwo-led court sitting, owing to their defection from the Peoples Democratic Party to the All Progressives Congress, on Tuesday.

Appealing the decision before the Court of Appeal in Suit No: FHC/ABJ/CS/920/2021, Umahi stated that the Federal High Court erred when it said it had “not seen any authority which propounds that where Governor or Deputy Governor defects his political party on which platform he was elected into office, he cannot be sued by that political party to reclaim its mandate.”

Umahi had described the judgement by Justice Ekwo as an embarrassment, saying the judge was out to embarrass the ruling party.

The embattled governor also vehemently announced he’ll be defying the order, as the PDP cannot be awarded the seat in the state.
