Gunmen suspected to be bandits have kidnapped a police officer in Bauchi State.
Daily Report Nigeria reports that the serving Assistant Superintendent of Police was abducted after the bandits invaded Toro town, headquarters of Toro Local Government Area in the state.
The abduction of the police officer came just hours security agencies rescued 33 kidnapped victims in Alkaleri Local Government Area of the state.
Toro was thrown into confusion on Friday night when the gunmen stormed the area, shooting sporadically as residents scampered for safety.
Eyewitnesses say the gunmen arrived in the town at about 9 pm with sophisticated weapons which they shot in the air to create pandemonium.
Reacting to the incident, the Member representing Toro Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Ismail Haruna Dabo, condemned the development and called for calm.
He described the incident as unfortunate and assured the people of continued legislative interventions to end the trend.
