The House approved the emergency rule through a voice vote and made key recommendations.
The House of Representatives on Thursday passed and adopted President Bola Tinubu’s proclamation declaring a state of emergency in Rivers State through a voice vote, with 243 lawmakers in attendance.
In addition to approving the emergency rule, the House made key recommendations, including the establishment of a National Committee to mediate and restore peace in Rivers State.

The House also recommended that the National Assembly should take over the functions of the Rivers State House of Assembly for the next six months.
This development follows President Tinubu’s Tuesday night broadcast, where he announced the suspension of Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy, and state lawmakers, appointing Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (Rtd.) as sole administrator of the state.
