- INEC declares Christopher Maikalangu winner in AMAC
- APC candidate polled over 40,000 votes
- ADC and PDP trail far behind
- Election process praised as credible and transparent
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Christopher Maikalangu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the duly elected chairman of the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC).
The result was announced at the AMAC collation centre by the council’s Collation Officer, Andrew Abue, who stated that Maikalangu, the incumbent chairman, secured the highest number of votes cast in the election.

According to Abue, Maikalangu polled 40,295 votes out of a total of 62,861 valid votes, meeting all legal requirements to be declared winner.
“That Maikalangu of the APC, having satisfied the requirements of the law, is hereby declared the winner and is returned elected,” Abue said.
Results announced showed that the African Democratic Congress (ADC) came second with 12,109 votes, while the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) placed third with 3,398 votes.
Other parties recorded the following votes:
Accord (403), Action Alliance (108), Action Democratic Party (588), All Progressives Grand Alliance (1,111), Allied Peoples Movement (122), Action Peoples Party (32), Boot Party (43), New Nigeria Peoples Party (1,694), National Rescue Movement (73), Peoples Redemption Party (90), Social Democratic Party (2,185), Young Progressives Party (421), and Zenith Labour Party (189).
Providing a breakdown of the election figures, Abue disclosed that 2,336 votes were rejected, while 65,197 votes were cast in total.
He added that AMAC has 837,338 registered voters, with 65,676 voters accredited for the election.
Reacting to the outcome, the APC Collation Agent, Gambo Babale, described the election and collation process as transparent and credible.
“INEC has done very well. From the polling units to the ward collation centres and here at the AMAC collation centre, everything was carried out properly,” Babale said.
He added that the PDP’s victory in some ward councillorship seats, including Karu and Karishi, further demonstrated the credibility of the exercise.
