The over 300 schoolboys of Government Science Secondary School, Kankara, Katsina State, who were kidnapped last Friday have been reportedly set free.

This is according to the governor of Katsina state, Governor Aminu Masari.

Governor Masari stated on Thursday night that the boys were currently in Tsafe, Zamfara State, but would be transported back to Kankara on Friday.

Masari also accredited the release of the schoolboys to have been facilitated by the leadership of MACABAN/Miyetti Allah.

According to The Punch, the release of the students was also confirmed by the Special Adviser to the Katsina Governor on Security, Ibrahim Kastina.

Kastina noted the students were at Tsafe (82.5km via road) from Kankara town in Katsina.

“Alhamdulillah. The boys have been rescued and are now at Tsafe, Zamfara State. But, we shall be moving them to Kankara tomorrow (Friday),” Kastina said.

Recall that Governor Masari had earlier on Wednesday alleged the abducted students were taken to a forest in Zamfara State.

He had also denied reports that the boys were kidnapped by Boko Haram.

Meanwhile, dreaded terrorist group, Boko Haram claimed responsibility of the kidnap, saying the act was purely a move to promote Islam.

A video released by the sect on Thursday morning also depicted the boys begging for the government to push for the securing of their release.
