Nigeria’s national power grid has suffered its first major collapse in 2025, plunging the country into a nationwide blackout.
The incident, which occurred barely ten days into the new year, marks the 13th grid collapse in the past 13 months.
According to reports, power generation dropped significantly, from 2111.01 megawatts as of 2 pm to 390.20 MW by 3 pm. The Energy podcast confirmed the blackout, stating, “National grid suffers major collapse… First in 2025.”

Another post updated the status, saying, “Restoration has begun… Currently generating 302MW as of 02:40 pm.”
The frequent grid collapses have left Nigerians frustrated and concerned about the country’s power infrastructure.
Again, National Grid Colapses for 12th Time in 2024
Nigerians were left in darkness once again as the national power grid collapsed for the twelfth time in 2024 on Wednesday afternoon.
The latest collapse, which occurred at approximately 2:09 pm, adds to the string of blackouts that have disrupted daily life across the country this year.
