Members of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) have begun a nationwide protest against the removal of petrol subsidy.

The NLC expressed dissatisfaction with the palliatives announced by the President, deeming them insufficient to alleviate the country’s suffering.

Despite appeals from the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, the NLC remained determined to proceed with the planned national protest on Wednesday.

According to reports, heavy security was on the ground at the Ikeja under-bridge in Lagos, where the NLC protest is kicking off.

“We have laid out the plans, the interventions of Mr. President, as you all heard in his broadcast yesterday (Monday), we made it clear that this was just Mr President’s initial rollout and interventions and that conversations will be ongoing as we go along,” Gbajabiamila had said during Tuesday’s meeting with Organized Labour.
