The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has reduced the pump price of premium motor spirit (PMS) from ₦955 to ₦900 per litre, barely 48 hours after its previous increase sparked concerns across the country.
Checks on Wednesday morning confirmed that several NNPCL retail outlets in Abuja — including locations in Gwarimpa, Kubwa Expressway, Wuse Zone 6, and Wuse Zone 4 — had implemented the new price adjustment.
“On Tuesday we sold fuel at ₦955 per litre, but it is now ₦900,” a fuel attendant at one of the NNPCL outlets in Abuja told Newmen on condition of anonymity.

The sudden ₦55 reduction in pump price comes amid continued tension and confusion in the downstream petroleum market, with many Nigerians struggling under the weight of fluctuating costs.
However, outside of NNPCL’s own retail network, major filling stations such as Ranoil and Empire Energy in Gwarimpa have only marginally adjusted their prices downward — now selling at ₦955 and ₦950 respectively, compared to earlier rates of ₦971 and ₦970.
