The Federal House of Representatives has rejected through voting, the prayer calling for the implementation of castration as punishment for rape offenders in Nigeria.
During it’s plenary session on Thursday, The House reflected on the recent increase in rape cases in the country and adopted a motion to that effect.
A motion raised by Hon James Faleke had suggested that all individuals found guilty of perpetrated rape should be put under castration.

However, Speaker of the House asked what would be the case if an older woman violated a younger man just before the recommendation was up for vote.
Gbajabiamila’s comment thus generated uproar in the House, as the voting commenced.
When the prayer was put on for voting, the nays had the day as the recommendation by James Faleke was totally ruled out.
