South African anti-apatheid icon, Archbishop Desmond Tutu, is dead.
President Cyril Ramaphosa said the death of the 90-year old marked “another chapter of bereavement in our nation’s farewell to a generation of outstanding South Africans”.
The president hailed the late cleric for helping the country to become “liberated”.

Tutu, a Nelson Mandela ally, won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1984 for combatting white minority rule in his country.
