Tragedy struck in Abuja on Saturday morning as a stampede at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Maitama left at least 10 people dead and many more injured.

The incident occurred when residents scrambled to receive palliatives distributed by the church, eyewitnesses claim.

The event, organised to provide relief to struggling residents, drew crowds mostly from Mpape, Gishiri Village, and other nearby settlements.

The spokesperson for the FCT Emergency Management Department, Nkechi Isa, could not be reached for further details as of the time of filing this report.
