The Supreme Court has affirmed Siminalayi Fubara as governor of Rivers State.
Daily Report Nigeria reports that the apex court on Thursday upheld the victory of Fubara in the March 18, 2023 election.
This is as the course dismissed the appeal by Tonye Cole and the All Progressives Congress (APC) against Fubara’s election for lacking in merit.
Delivering judgment, the court held that the Cole and the APC did not prove the allegations of non compliance with the Electoral Act among others.

The court further ruled that the appeal was incompetent and subsequently dismissed it.
Cole had challenged the victory of Governor Fubara on the ground that he did not resign as the accountant general of rivers state before the election.

The appellant also cited alleged irregularities, non compliance with the Electoral Act, corrupt practices among others.
He sought for the reversal of the judgements of the Court of Appeal and the Tribunal, which upheld the declaration of Fubara of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the winner of the Rivers Governorship Election.
The development will come as a relief for Fubara, who has been faced with severe opposition in his short reign.
