The Supreme Court in Abuja is set to hear and potentially deliver judgment today on the appeal brought forth by Patrick Tonye-Cole, the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State.

Tonye-Cole’s appeal is directed against the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

One of the key arguments presented by Tonye-Cole is that Fubara failed to resign as the Accountant General of the state within the constitutionally mandated deadline and the provisions of the Electoral Act.

Consequently, Tonye-Cole asserts that Fubara was ineligible to participate in the election, let alone be declared the winner by INEC.

Today, the apex court will carefully consider these contentions, along with other pleas made by the APC candidate.

It is expected that all electoral legal matters will be resolved by tomorrow, January 16, 2024.

Stay tuned for more details…
