The Supreme Court in Abuja is set to hear and potentially deliver judgment today on the appeal brought forth by Patrick Tonye-Cole, the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State.
Tonye-Cole’s appeal is directed against the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
One of the key arguments presented by Tonye-Cole is that Fubara failed to resign as the Accountant General of the state within the constitutionally mandated deadline and the provisions of the Electoral Act.
Consequently, Tonye-Cole asserts that Fubara was ineligible to participate in the election, let alone be declared the winner by INEC.
