Residents of Gbugbu community in Edu Local Government Area of Kwara State have reportedly come under attack following an invasion by suspected terrorists, triggering panic and mass displacement.
Sources said heavy gunfire erupted across the community on Sunday as the attackers stormed the area in large numbers, shooting sporadically while moving through parts of the town.

The assault forced many residents to flee into nearby bushes, while others reportedly remained trapped indoors as the sound of gunshots echoed for hours.

As of the time of filing this report, there were no confirmed casualties. The number of persons abducted, if any, also remains uncertain, as the assailants were said to be ransacking sections of the community.
A local source told SaharaReporters that the situation was terrifying, with residents unsure of the fate of their neighbours.
“We don’t know the number of those taken or killed yet. The situation is terrifying,” the source said.
The incident marks another violent episode in Edu Local Government Area, which has witnessed a series of attacks in recent months resulting in deaths, abductions, and destruction of property.
Security operatives had yet to issue an official statement at the time of this report, as residents continued to call for urgent intervention to restore calm and protect lives and property.
