In a historic gesture of goodwill and strengthening of bilateral ties, President Bola Tinubu on Sunday, November 17, conferred India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi with Nigeria’s second-highest national award, the Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger (GCON).

The recognition took place during Modi’s state visit to Nigeria, marking a significant moment in the deepening relationship between the two nations.

The announcement was made by the Special Assistant to the President on Social Media, Dada Olusegun, who posted the development on X, formerly known as Twitter.

The post described the honour bestowed on the Indian leader as an expression of Nigeria’s appreciation for Modi’s longstanding friendship with the country.

“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu honours Prime Minister #NarendraModi. Confers him with Nigeria’s second-highest honour of Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger (GCON) and declares him a friend of Nigeria,” Olusegun wrote in the post.
