President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has announced the immediate removal of the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa, along with other service chiefs, in what the presidency described as a strategic move to strengthen Nigeria’s national security framework.
The development was contained in a statement signed by Mr. Sunday Dare, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communication, and released on Friday in Abuja.

According to the statement, the President approved the appointment of General Olufemi Oluyede as the new Chief of Defence Staff, while Major-General W. Shaibu was named the new Chief of Army Staff. Air Vice Marshal S.K. Aneke will now serve as Chief of Air Staff, and Rear Admiral I. Abbas takes over as Chief of Naval Staff.
The statement noted that Major-General E.A.P. Undiendeye, the Chief of Defence Intelligence, will retain his position.
“The President, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, expresses most profound appreciation to the outgoing Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, and the other Service Chiefs for their patriotic service and dedicated leadership,” the statement read.
President Tinubu further charged the newly appointed service chiefs to justify the confidence reposed in them by enhancing professionalism, vigilance, and unity within the Armed Forces of Nigeria.
All appointments, according to the presidency, take immediate effect.
