Russia has announced just 498 as the official figure of troops it has lost in the ongoing invasion of Ukraine.

This was disclosed on Wednesday by Defence Ministry spokesman, Igor Konashenkov.

Konashenkov also revealed that the country has about 1,597 wounded troops in Ukraine.

During a broadcast on state television, he said “Four hundred and ninety-eight Russian servicemen have died in the line of duty,” adding that “1,597 of our comrades have been wounded.”

Meanwhile, both countries are set to enter another round of peace talks at the Belarus-Poland border.

Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered a full-scale invasion of Ukraine on February 24, with Moscow pleading “self-defense” under Article 51 of the UN Charter.
