Justice Tanko Muhammed of the Supreme Court has resigned his position as the Chief Justice of Nigeria.

Daily Report Nigeria gathered that Justice Tanko resigned Sunday night on the grounds of ill health.

The development is said to have led to the preparation of the next most senior justice of the Supreme Court, Justice Olukayode Ariwoola as acting Chief Justice of Nigeria.

Justice Tanko Muhammed until his resignation was reportedly seriously ill.

An official announcement of his resignation is expected to be made later today.

Meanwhile, 14 justices of the Supreme Court last week wrote Justice Tanko a letter to lament the decrepit state of affairs in the court.
