Medical staff and emergency services administered prolonged CPR and used a defibrillator on site, but he later died while the match ended 1–1.
Club medics kept treatment at the stadium because they believed immediate care offered the best chance of survival, and privacy screens were put up while officials considered stopping play.
However, the game continued as most players and supporters were unaware and pausing could have disrupted resuscitation.
Brighton’s chief executive called the outcome “incredibly sad” and offered the club’s deepest sympathies to the family.
Meanwhile, After Matt O’Riley’s penalty kick in the 55th minute gave Brighton the lead in the match, Rodrigo Muniz’s equaliser in the sixth minute of extra time sealed a 1-1 draw.
