Bruno Labbadia Appointed as Head Coach of Super Eagles

Bruno Labbadia

Bruno Labbadia, a well-known German coach, has been appointed as the new head coach of Nigeria’s national men’s football team, the Super Eagles. This decision was announced early on Tuesday by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) after a lengthy search for a new coach to lead the former African champions.

In a statement shared on their official media channels, the NFF confirmed that Labbadia has accepted the role and will assume his duties immediately. The statement reads,

“The Nigeria Football Federation has announced that it has reached an agreement with German tactician, Bruno Labbadia, to become the Head Coach of Nigeria’s Senior Men National Team, Super Eagles.” NFF General Secretary, Dr. Mohammed Sanusi, further elaborated, stating, “The NFF Executive Committee has approved the recommendation of its Technical and Development Sub-Committee to appoint Mr. Bruno Labbadia as the Head Coach of the Super Eagles. The appointment is with immediate effect.”

This announcement comes after the Super Eagles had been without a head coach following Finidi George’s departure after a brief stint in the role.

His most recent coaching role was with VfB Stuttgart, which he joined in December 2022. Unfortunately, his stint there was short-lived, as he was dismissed in April 2023 after the team fell to the bottom of the Bundesliga table.

As the new head coach of the Super Eagles, Labbadia will lead the team in their upcoming Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Benin Republic and Rwanda next month.
