Budget Defence: NASS Postpones Resumption to February 4

  • The Nigerian National Assembly has postponed its resumption date from January 28 to February 4, 2025.

  •  The postponement is to allow committees sufficient time to conclude ongoing budget engagements and defenses with Ministries, Departments, and Agencies.

  • The development is connected to the ongoing defense of the 2025 budget proposal by ministries, departments, and agencies.

The Nigerian National Assembly has postponed its resumption date from January 28 to February 4, 2025.

The development was announced in separate statements by the Senate and the House of Representatives on Friday.

According to the Clerk of the Senate, Andrew Nwoba, the postponement was due to the ongoing defense of the 2025 budget proposal by ministries, departments, and agencies.

“Please be informed that there is a change in the resumption date due to the ongoing budget defense. It has been rescheduled from Tuesday, 28th January 2025, to Tuesday, 4th February 2025, at 11:00 am. prompt,” he wrote.

The House of Representatives also announced the postponement, citing the need to allow committees sufficient time to conclude ongoing budget engagements and defenses with Ministries, Departments, and Agencies.

“This measure ensures a thorough and comprehensive approach to legislative responsibilities,” said Reps spokesman, Akin Rotimi.

Rotimi added that the House remains committed to fulfilling its legislative mandate for the benefit of Nigerians and appreciates the understanding of all stakeholders.

The development is connected to the ongoing defense of the 2025 budget proposal by ministries, departments, and agencies.

President Bola Tinubu had presented the 2025 N49.7tn budget proposal before a joint session of the National Assembly for approval on December 18, 2024.
