Nation mourns as flags fly at half-mast across Nigeria
The remains of former President Muhammadu Buhari were laid to rest on Tuesday in Daura, Katsina State, as thousands gathered to bid farewell to Nigeria’s longest-serving leader.
At exactly 5:50 pm, Buhari’s body—draped in the green-white-green national colours—was lowered into the grave in his ancestral home after Islamic funeral rites and a full military parade befitting a former Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, former Vice Presidents Yemi Osinbajo and Atiku Abubakar, billionaire Aliko Dangote, and dozens of serving and former governors led the nation’s dignitaries to witness the sombre burial ceremony.

Grieving family members, led by Buhari’s widow Aisha, joined traditional rulers, clerics, and close associates to pay their last respects to the man millions in the north called “Mai Gaskiya” (the truth-teller).

Buhari’s Final Journey
The late president’s body was flown from The London Clinic, where he died on Sunday, July 13, after a prolonged illness. President Tinubu personally received the coffin at the Umaru Musa Yar’Adua Airport in Katsina before it was conveyed to Daura under heavy security.
Military salutes, gunfire, and a mournful procession marked the final journey as the nation observed a day of mourning declared by the Federal Government. Flags flew at half-mast across Nigeria.
