The Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) has withdrawn the registration certificate of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) following a protracted leadership crisis that has plagued the organisation for nearly two decades.

According to an official statement issued on Monday, October 6, 2025, by Mrs. Omolara Esan, Director of Information and Public Relations at the Federal Ministry of Youth Development, the ministry received a formal notice from the CAC announcing the deregistration.

Mrs. Esan explained that the decision followed a comprehensive investigation into the internal affairs of the NYCN, which revealed serial breaches of the council’s constitution and provisions of the Companies and Allied Matters Act (CAMA) 2020, especially Sections 833 and 834.

“The action was taken pursuant to the powers conferred on the Commission under Sections 8(1)(c) and 8(1)(d) of the CAMA 2020, after a thorough review of the council’s governance practices,” the statement said.

The CAC also disclosed that it had de-recognised all existing claims to leadership, trusteeship, and management within the NYCN due to unresolved internal conflicts and administrative irregularities.

To restore order, the Commission constituted an Interim Management Committee (IMC) to administer the affairs of the youth body for a one-year period, effective from October 6, 2025.

The Federal Ministry of Youth Development affirmed its recognition of the CAC’s statutory powers under the law and expressed readiness to cooperate with the interim management to ensure stability in youth affairs.

“As the supervisory authority over the National Youth Council of Nigeria, the ministry takes due cognisance of this development and acknowledges the legal authority of the CAC under CAMA 2020,” the statement added.
