The 36th edition of the Africa Cup of Nations will be historic as it will be co-hosted by Uganda, Kenya, and Tanzania, marking the first time the tournament will be organised by three countries.
The tournament has been officially branded “PAMOJA,” a Swahili word meaning “together.”
Organisers say the name reflects the spirit of unity and cooperation among the three East African nations hosting the competition.
In Uganda, matches will be played at:
• Mandela National Stadium, Namboole
• Hoima City Stadium
Other matches will also take place in stadiums across Kenya and Tanzania, as the countries work together to deliver a successful tournament.
To ensure readiness, organisers have set a January 2027 deadline for the completion of stadium renovations and upgrades to training facilities.
The Ugandan government has also approved visa waivers for visitors beginning one month before the tournament, in order to encourage tourism and make travel easier for supporters.
Officials expect around 500,000 fans to attend the tournament across the three host countries.
Despite the excitement surrounding the event, there have been concerns about whether the host nations’ infrastructure will be ready on time.
However, CAF President Patrice Motsepe dismissed rumours suggesting the tournament might be postponed to 2028, describing the claims as “unfounded.”
He expressed confidence that the host countries will be ready to deliver a world-class tournament.
The 2027 edition will also mark the 70th anniversary of the Africa Cup of Nations.
It will be the first time the tournament returns to East Africa since Ethiopia hosted the competition in 1976.
