Rivers United FC’s chances of qualifying for the CAF Champions League group stage were crushed on Sunday as they were held to a 1-1 draw at home against Sudan’s Al Hilal in Port Harcourt.
Yasil Mohammed gave the Sudanese giants the lead in the 37th minute, but Rivers United equalized in the 68th minute when an Al Hilal player, Samwal Noureldin, placed the ball through his own net.
The next match will be played on October 24 in Egypt, following Al Hilal’s home ground ban in Sudan due to poor conditions.
