President Bola Tinubu has given reasons to why he suspended Godwin Emefiele as Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
Daily Report Nigeria reports that the President gave the disclosure during an interactive session with Nigerians residing in France and other neighbouring European countries.
The former Lagos governor raised concerns over the state of Nigeria’s financial status during Emefiele’s leadership, and described it as rotten.
According to Tinubu, the Emefiele’s style of leading the apex bank allowed a select few to enrich themselves via illegal money-making activities in the face of many difficulties experienced by Nigerians in the diaspora in their attempt to send money back home due to multiple exchange rates.

“Then the financial system was rotten. Few people making bags of our money and then you yourself, you stopped sending money home to our poor parents. Several windows… but that is gone now, is gone.
“The man is in the hands of authorities, something is being done about that, they will sort themselves out,” Tinubu added.
