Over time, a good number of notable and highly respected celebrities have been accused of different degrees of sexual assault, some of which later resulted in jail sentences.

Compiled in this post is a list of celebrities who have been jailed for sexual assault.

First on the list is Ace American singer, R Kelly, who has been sentenced to 30 years of Imprisonment for sexual crimes.

R Kelly was found guilty of recruiting and trapping teenagers and women for sex. As punishment, he was sentenced to 30 years of Imprisonment, and also placed under a suicide watch on Wednesday, June 29, 2022.

Mike Tyson was accused of raping Desire Washington in 1992

The former American professional boxer was accused of rape in 1992.

Mike Tyson was alleged to have raped Desiree Washington, the then Miss Rhode Island, who was 18 at that time.

The lady claimed that the former American boxer had raped her in a hotel room in Indianapolis, but Tyson denied the allegations.

Tyson’s driver however countered his boss, as he said that Desiree was in a state of shock after the incident.

Tyson was sentenced to six years in prison and four years of probation.

He was released in 1995 before the set time for his release. He only spent less than three years in prison.

3. Tupac Shakur Aka 2Pac

2Pac was arrested for allegedly raping a 19-year-old in 1994

Coming third on my list of celebrities who have been Jailed for sexual assault is 2Pac.

2Pac, alongside three of his aides, was arrested for sexually assaulting a 19-year-old woman in 1994.

He was sentenced to four and a half years at Clinton Facility in Dannemora but only spent nine months at the facility.

2Pac spent less time because Marion Hugh Knight Jr. also known as Suge Knight offered to pay 2Pac’s bail.

He struck a deal with him that after paying his bail and aiding his release, 2Pac would join his record label, Death Row Records.

He happened to be in the limelight, and Suge saw it as a good deal.

4. Godwin Okpara

Dominic Opara was arrested for sexual assaults on his adopted daughter

The former Nigerian footballer was sentenced to 10 years imprisonment for sexual assault in France.

According to BBC, Godwin, who played for RC Strasbourg of France and Paris St. German was found guilty of raping and enslaving his adopted daughter, who was 13 years old at the time, at his family home in Chatou, West of Paris.

Also, his wife, Linda Okpara was sentenced to 15 years in prison for subjecting the girl to more sexual assault after she found out what was going on between her husband and the adopted girl.

5. Harvey Weinstein

Harvey Weinstein was sent to jail for sexual assaults on multiple women

Harvey Weinstein, a former movie producer was sentenced to 23 years in prison for sexual assault.

Harvey, who was 67 years old and sick at that time, was given a 20 years sentence for a felony attack on Ms. Miriam Haley, a victim of the assault, with an additional three years for the rape of Ms. Jessica Mann, another victim.

However, six people had testified against him in court before this.

Ms. Miriam Haley claimed that he forced oral sex on her in 2006, and Ms. Jessica, who was an aspiring actress claimed he had raped her in a Manhattan hotel in 2013.

6. Bill Cosby

Bill Cosby was sentenced for drugging and assaulting Andrea Constand in 2004

The popular American stand-up comedian was sentenced to three to ten years sentence in prison.

Bill was convicted of drugging and sexually assaulting Andrea Constand in 2004 but was convicted for the crimes in April 2018.

At the time, Andrea who happened to be an Operations Manager for Temple University women’s basketball program said that she went to Cosby’s home to discuss her career when he drugged her and had his way with her.

She filed a criminal complaint, but was told there was no substantial evidence to carry on the case, then she changed from a criminal charge to a civil charge and he settled with her for nearly $3.4 million in 2006.

Later, her case was reopened and he was charged with three counts of worse sexual crimes. Sixty women also claimed that he had drugged and raped them.

However, he only spent three years in prison because the highest court of Pennsylvania turned over the charges against him.

7. Gary Glitter

Gary Glitter was sentenced for sexual assault that spanned 16 years.

Paul Gadd, better known by his stage name, Gary Glitter was sentenced to 16 years imprisonment for sexual assault between 1975-1980.

He was sentenced to jail for a while after he got arrested for having child pornography on his device in their numbers.

In the year 2006, he was handed another jail term for abusing two minors; ages 11 and 12 in Vietnam.

8. Ghislaine Maxwell

Ghislaine Maxwell was sent to prison for sex crimes

Maxwell was sentenced to 20 years in prison for sex crimes.

According to CNN, Ghislaine, who worked hand-in-hand with Jeffery Epstein would deceive young and naive girls to meet him, and he would sexually assault them.

A victim, Jane, who had testified in the court said that Epstein started to abuse her in 1994, as at that time she was 14.

She also mentioned that sometimes, Maxwell was there to witness the act or get involved too.

It was reported that Epstein took his own life while he was behind bars, and the judge who presided over the case said that Maxwell would face the judgment for the role she played, and not for Epstein’s.

9. Jung Joon Young and Choi Jong-hoon

Jung Joon Young and Choi Jong-hoon were found guilty of raping drunken women

The two K-Pop stars were sentenced to 6 and 5 years of Imprisonment respectively for the crime of gang-raping drunk women.

According to BBC, the duo were charged with the sexual crime of raping women who were drunk and unconscious, filmed them, then spread it on a group chat.

The judge, Kang Seong-Sio said that the pain of victims who found it later was unimaginable.

10. Baba Ijesha

Baba Ijesha was sentenced to 16 years in prison for assualting a minor

Nigerian actor, Olarenwaju James, popularly known as Baba Ijesha was found guilty of sexually assaulting a minor.

Baba Ijesha was sentenced after a protracted legal battle for sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl.

The actor was arraigned on June 24, 2021. During the trial, six prosecution witnesses testified against him.

The judge at Ikeja special offences court Oluwatoyin Taiwo convicted Baba Ijesha of indecent treatment of a child, sexual assault, and attempted sexual assault in a two-hour judgment.

Taiwo, however, discharged and acquitted him of count one and count six, which were: sexual assault by penetration and attempted sexual assault by penetration.
